On the last day of the monsoon session of Bihar legislature, former chief minister and Rashtriya Janada Dal leader Rabri Devi on Friday (July 25, 2025) accused Chief M\inister Nitish Kumar to get provoked seeing black clothes “like a bull upon seeing red colour”.
Ms. Devi who is also party’s MLC further alleged that the ruling BJP-JD(U) combine in the state has “hatched a conspiracy” to kill his younger son and Leader of Opposition in state assembly Tejashwi Yadav, for four times.
“Nitish Kumar seems to be provoked seeing black clothes as a bull gets seeing red colour”, said Ms. Devi in State legislative council when the Chief Minister took exception to Opposition party legislators attending the House dressed in black clothes in protest against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state. “What wrong did we do inside the House? The proceedings have been recorded, school children are sitting in the viewer’s gallery, I dare the government to prove any misconduct on our part”, Ms. Devi dared the ruling NDA government after coming out of the legislative Council.
Earlier on Friday, in the State Assembly, CM Nitish Kumar took exception to the black dress that the Opposition members wore. During the five-day monsoon session of State legislature, the Opposition party legislators have been wearing black dress in protest of the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls going on in the state.
Coming outside of the state legislative council, Ms. Devi further told media persons that the ruling BJP-JD(U) combine has “hatched a conspiracy” for four times to kill her younger son Tejashwi Yadav, ahead of upcoming state assembly elections. The state assembly poll in Bihar are due in October-November later this year. Tejashwi Yadav, earlier, has been declared as political heir of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and he has been politically and electorally taking on the ruling NDA alliance in the state.
“There have been attempts to murder Tejashwi for four times by the ruling BJP-JD(U) combine. So many killings are taking place in the state daily so let there be one more”, alleged Rabri Devi.
When asked who is hatching plan to murder her son, Ms. Devi added, “who else but the ruling BJP-JD(U) alliance. They want him bumped off so that he is not around to challenge them in elections”, she said while recalling an incident when a “truck had tried to run over Tejashwi Yadav’s vehicle”. Ms. Devi along with Opposition MLCs had staged protest against SIR at the entrance gate of the state legislative council and raised slogans against the exercise by the election commission.
When the media persons reached Ms. Devi for comment on Deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Samrat Choudhary’s conduct against her son Tejashwi Yadav in the State Assembly on July 24, Ms. Devi said, “do not ask me about Samrat Choudhary. I’ve known him since he was a child…Let us not speak much about those in BJP-JD(U) combine as they’re like naali ke keede (gutter worms)”. Mr. Choudhary, though, was, earlier, minister in Rabri Devi’s cabinet in 1999.
BJP condemnds Rabri Devi’s language
Reacting over Ms. Devi’s charges on BJP leaders, the other Deputy Chief Minister of the State and senior State BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha said, “RJD has been equated with jungle raj and so they have very good knowledge of who was harassing girls and goons and who is not”. “We, in the BJP, believe in taking all people along in the interest of the society and reform those who may have been led astray in the past”, added Mr. Sinha. When asked about the language Ms. Devi has used for his party and partymen, Mr. Sinha asserted, “what more one expect from the RJD people?”.
The five-day monsoon session of the State legislature on Friday (July 25, 2025) was adjourned sine die before the political parties would plunge into the upcoming assembly election which are likely to be held in the month of October-November later this year. The Opposition parties wearing black dress continued protest both inside and outside the State assembly on the issue of SIR of electoral rolls forcing Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav to adjourn the House several times during all five-days.
