Delhi govt formation LIVE updates: BJP begins talks to pick next Delhi CM, likely to stake claim to power soon

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to form the next government in Delhi after more than 26 years, winning 48 of the 70 Assembly seats. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 22 seats meanwhile the Congress drew a blank in the polls held on February 5.

Day after winning the Delhi Assembly polls, a delegation of the BJP’s winning candidates in the Capital, led by Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, met Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V.K. Saxena on Sunday (February 9, 2025). Earlier in the day, Mr. Sachdeva had requested time to meet the L-G with the 48 MLAs and seven MPs.

BJP sources said it was a courtesy call and another meeting with other new MLAs was yet to be scheduled. L-G office sources said the meeting’s time had not been fixed.

Outgoing Chief Minister Atishi, who retained her seat in Kalkaji in the Assembly polls, submitted her resignation to the L-G. Mr. Saxena asked her to continue until the new government’s formation is complete.
