Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav will join Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal for a roadshow in Rithala on Thursday. Several MPs of the SP, including Iqra Hasan from Kairana, will also campaign for Delhi’s ruling party in the run-up to the February 5 Assembly election. Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha, who hails from Bihar, is also scheduled to canvass for AAP in at least three seats on February 1 and 2. The presence of Mr. Yadav and Mr. Sinha is likely to give a boost to the ruling party’s outreach to the Purvanchalis, residents of eastern U.P. and Bihar and those hailing from there in the national capital, comprising one of the largest voter bases in the city.

AAP, SP, and Trinamool Congress are part of the INDIA bloc, of which Congress is the biggest constituent. However, the Opposition parties have decided to rally behind Mr. Kejriwal’s party to take on the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party in Delhi.

The Congress has been attacking the AAP calling it out for not tabling 14 CAG reports that it says contain proof of “corruption” of the AAP-led Delhi government as well as on the alleged liquor scam and the exorbidant expinditurte on the renovation of Mr. Kejriwal’s bugalow allotted to him as chief minister. While the two parties fought the lok sabha polls as allies, they have grown distant since then.
