Enthused with the party’s victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, the West Bengal unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday said that victory will serve as a morale booster for the party in the State.
Assembly elections in West Bengal are scheduled in 2026. The ruling Trinamool Congress has outperformed the BJP in recent elections in West Bengal including the Lok Sabha election in 2024.

West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari both expressed hope that the victory in the national capital will boost the party’s prospects in the State.
“The elections in Delhi prove that people are not with corruption, people are with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Now, our next target is West Bengal. In 2026, all Bengalis not only residing in West Bengal but also elsewhere will come together to win Bengal [for the BJP],” Mr. Majumdar told journalists.

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari who addressed a public gathering at Purba Medinipur spoke on similar lines and said that now it is the turn of West Bengal. Mr. Adhikari said that cash incentives and false cases will not work and “all Hindus will unite”.
“We will not allow West Bengal to turn into Bangladesh. Haryana has spoken, Maharashtra has spoken, Delhi has spoken, and Bihar will vote for us in November. The very next year in February or March, West Bengal will also give the same verdict,” the Leader of Opposition said.
There were celebrations outside West Bengal BJP headquarters at 6 Murlidhar Sen Lane in Kolkata with BJP supporters distributing sweets.
The remarks by the West Bengal BJP leadership assume significance as the vote share of the BJP has been on the decline after 2019 Lok Sabha and 2021 Assembly election, when its vote share peaked at 40%. The defeat of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi also comes amid support extended by parties in the Opposition bloc to AAP. The Trinamool leadership had extended support to AAP and some party leaders even campaigned for Arvind Kejriwal’s party.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool chairperson Mamata Banerjee maintains close ties with the AAP convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister. Senior Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh said the Delhi Assembly election results won’t have any impact in West Bengal Assembly elections next year.
“2026. West Bengal Assembly Elections. @AITCofficial 250+ Fourth time Chief Minister @MamataOfficial. What happened elsewhere is not our business. What happens in Delhi won’t have an impact in Bengal,” Mr. Ghosh posted on social media platform X.
State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar also spoke about the unity of anti-Trinamool voters and said that the BJP can trump the Trinamool if all the votes polled in the support of other Opposition parties, namely the CPI(M) and the Congress, come to the BJP.
Reflecting on the Delhi Assembly elections Suvendu Adhikari said Muslims have supported the BJP but added that in West Bengal minorities are behind the Trinamool Congress and the saffron party can only win West Bengal only by the support of Hindu votes.
