For the third time in a row, the Congress party is set to have no MLAs in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The party has not registered a single lead in any constituency as of 12 p.m., and this is likely to stick.

Sheila Dikshit, a veteran Congress leader who died in 2021, was Delhi’s longest-serving Chief Minister. She headed the Delhi government from 1998-2013.

In the 2013 Delhi Assembly election, the Congress party won just eight seats, but was still a significant presence in the formation of the government as it gave outside support to Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which formed a short-lived government.

Since then, the Congress has failed to secure any seats in the Delhi Assembly election, in both 2015 and 2020 Assembly elections.

Alka Lamba, another notable Congress leader, is also trailing. She is currently a distant third in the Kalkaji constituency, behind BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and AAP’s Atishi.

In the 2025 election, Congress focused on running a candidate-centric campaign to turn its fortune around in the capital, but that has not worked for the party. The party picked out 20 seats and also hoped for the return of minority and Dalit voters to its side.

According to latest trends by the Election Commission of India (ECI), The BJP was leading in 45 of Delhi’s 70 Assembly seats while AAP was ahead in 25. The voting for the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 concluded on February 5 with an overall voter turnout of 60.39%. The highest voter turnout was in Mustafabad (69%) while the lowest was in Karol Bagh (47.40%).
